Okay, so this was supposed to be episode 12, even though it was labelled everywhere in the episode as episode 11. It contained no recycled material whatsoever however, so I guess it’s safe to assume that it was really episode twelve. I’m not the only one who is a bit confused, right? In any case, … Continue reading Hourou Musuko – 11

THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- It has ended... This is by far Winter 2011's best show. It's outstanding. The presentation was absolutely amazing; amazing art, great animation and an absolutely beautiful soundtrack make this anime a work of art. The newcoming seiyuu, especially Takatsuki's, were also splendid. I loved the anime's story and plot development. The characters were extremely likable too, I love them all. Well, except for Momo. And I disliked Chiba at first too, but once her character developed more, I started to really like her. Anyway, about this episode, I thought it was great. Like Nitori said, I can't really tell now if Doi's a terrible person or actually kind of nice... His red wig looked funny though. I'm glad Anna went to see Nitori. I thought they were a great couple. We got some great character development for Anna this episode. I like her even more now. And nooo, Takatsuki's long hair is gone! ;___; It looked so great on her! Long hair also looks good on Nitori. He looks like a girl even without his wig, hehe. The OP at the end of the episode fitted really well. And I'm glad Nitori accepted his voice is changing at that he's hitting puberty. I felt pretty sad when this episode ended... I really loved this show. I guess I'll start reading the manga as soon it's released in English. I'll buy it ASAP. 5/5 for this episode and 10/10 for the anime. I'm a huge fan of...

I haven't read it so I don't know exactly what's used in the English translation, but I assume you're just talking about things like -san, -chan and so on? They're used in a fair few English translations, and are more popular in fansubs (too often I see official translations replace them with English honorifics like "Miss [name]" that aren't direct translations from the Japanese.)

Effeminate fifth grader Shuuichi Nitori is considered by most to be one of the prettiest girls in school, but much to her dismay, she is actually biologically male. Fortunately, Shuuichi has a childhood friend who has similar feelings of discomfort related to gender identity: the lanky tomboy Yoshino Takatsuki, who, though biologically female, does not identify as a girl. These two friends share a similar secret and find solace in one another; however, their lives become even more complicated when they must tread the unfamiliar waters of a new school, attempt to make new friends, and struggle to maintain old ones. Faced with nearly insurmountable odds, they must learn to deal with the harsh realities of growing up, being transgender, relationships, and acceptance. Lauded as a decidedly serious take on gender identity and LGBT struggles, Takako Shimura's Hourou Musuko is about Shuuichi and Yoshino's attempts to discover their true selves as they enter puberty, make friends, fall in love, and face some very real and difficult choices.
